Case Study: Blocked Drain St Kilda

Published by

Recently, we were called out to help a customer in St Kilda with a blocked drain that was causing water to back up into their backyard. Melbourne’s unpredictable weather can often lead to blocked stormwater drains, and this was no exception.

The Situation

Our customer noticed water pooling near the back of their property after a heavy downpour. Despite attempting to clear some debris themselves, the water showed no signs of draining, and that’s when they gave us a call.

Our team arrived promptly and got to work, starting with a thorough inspection of the drainage system. St Kilda is known for its mix of older homes and lush greenery, which means tree roots are often a culprit. We used a CCTV camera to investigate, and sure enough, there was a large root intrusion that had broken into the stormwater pipe, causing a blockage.

The Solution

Using our high-pressure jetting equipment, we were able to clear the blockage quickly and safely, removing the roots and any other debris causing the problem. Once the drain was clear, we inspected the pipe for further damage and recommended a follow-up maintenance check to ensure no ongoing issues would arise.

We also provided some preventive advice, such as keeping an eye on drain guards and scheduling regular inspections to catch any early signs of root intrusion, especially in areas with mature trees like St Kilda.

Outcome

With the blockage cleared, water was able to drain away normally again, and our customer was relieved to have their backyard back to normal. We’re always happy to assist with blocked drains, whether in St Kilda or across Melbourne, and it’s rewarding to see the peace of mind our work can bring to our customers.
